"let's do the trek"

Apropos of:

* Bone MD's mountaineering tips

* Doc Doray's Takbo Para sa Puso project of the Philippine Heart Association

* MerryCherry's encouragement to see our country first and

* Joelle Klein's hiking for health ...

...my friends and I decided that ...

... we would go mountain climbing!

To Casaroro Falls or to the Japanese Shrine in Valencia?

My friends, who are members of the Cuernos de Negros Mountaineering Club, decided that, since it was my first time, we would choose the easiest route. To Casaroro Falls it was. So we climbed UP the mountain and went DOWN the valley so we could go to the base of the falls.

I thought I was prepared for the climb already but five minutes into the trek I realized that walking on a FLAT surface is totally different from walking UPHILL. O_O (What's the emoticon for a tongue that's totally hanging out?)

Going down the mountain into the valley (and coming up as well !) was made so much easier because concrete steps with metal handrails have been built on to the side of the mountain.

flowers adorn the steps on the mountainside

The concrete and metal did seem incongruous with the lush vegetation but I was not in a position to complain, only very grateful that I did not have to crawl down or climb up the mountain hanging on to the tree roots and vines.

On our way back, thru the hanging bridge again...

...and thru flowers along the steps.

Welcome to the wilderness outside OR Doc Ness! I always felt "anesthesized " whenever I'm frolicking outdoors!

When I hit negros next time, I'd look for this falls. Ganda!

Hi David,

These pictures are from the mountains in Valencia, a town ten kilometers from Dumaguete city, which is in an island in the middle of the Philippine archipelago!

Thank you for visiting. :-)
