My cellphone camera was not able to capture the colors well, but these student nurses are wearing baby pink and minty green duty scrubs. They are, afterall, on their rotation at the pediatrics department, where studies have shown that white uniforms were given the thumbs-down and lip-corners-down ratings whereas clothes with colorful cartoony prints were more kid friendly.
The pediatrics department is also where my family and I have been camping at, sort of, this past week as my nine-year-old nephew, the son of my brother, had the dreaded dengue.
The pediatrics department is also where teachers, mothers and a couple of students from the SU Elementary School, visited to bring cheer to the patient and to the sleepless parents, as well as bring get well soon cards and letters. That was really sweet of them.
Pediatrics is actually the specialty that I wanted to go into for aren't chubby little babies the cutest patients ever? But during clerkship I realized that screaming and squirming chubby babies were nightmares especially when it comes to IV insertion so I opted to specialize in something else. Plus, there are the (sometimes domineering) parents, grandparents, aunties, yayas, ates, kuyas and cousins to contend with. Suddenly you don't have just one patient but a whole flowering family tree as well.
