Because of:
1. our climate - warm, sunny
2. our bodies of water - breathtaking, bountiful
3. our land - fertile, verdant
4. our hometowns, homecities, homeprovinces - nostalgic, progressive
5. our produce (mangoes, bananas, bagoong, etc.) - exquisite, luscious
6. our food - (rice, adobo, sinugba, humba, kinilaw, paksiw, dinuldog) - nonpareil, scrumptious
7. our schools - producing world class graduates
8. our healthcare - innovative, improving
9. our politics - (i am speechless)
10. our people - hardworking, creative, caring, enduring
In spite of:
1. our climate - sweltering, humid
2. our bodies of water - polluted, drying up
3. our land - neglected, eroded
4. our hometowns, homecities, homeprovinces - boorish, primitive
5. our produce - insufficient rice in an agricultural country (?!?)
6. our food - unhealthy, greasy, extravagant
7. our schools - ranking pitifully below par by international standards
8. our healthcare - critically ill, hemorrhaging
9. our politics - unspeakably vile
10. our people - lazy, greedy, selfish, apathetic
With hopes of...
1. our climate - can we stop global warming?
2. our bodies of water - can we stop killing our freshwater and marine life?
3. our land - can we plant more trees?
4. our hometowns, our cities, our provinces - can we clean up our streets and canals?
5. our produce - can we make enough for our people and extra for our neighbors?
6. our food - can we choose healthier diets?
7. our schools - can we stop our teachers from leaving?
8. our healthcare - can it still be resuscitated?
9. our politics - can we say enough already?
10. our people - can we repair our damaged culture?

I *heart* the Philippines because it is my country.
I want to focus on *heart-ing * instead of *hurting* it.

I like the because of, in spite of and with hopes of format Doc. Galing. Very original and creative. :)
Love the idea, too. I second the (e)motion. Very original. I see that it's the same things that we love and hate at once. There are many angles from w/c to look at an apple. A rotten one, at that. Hehehe.
Doc Ness, love hate nga! Pano yan?! Pero ako stay pa rin...
I love that last sentence. *Hearting* instead of *hurting*. Very clever!
Please visit my blog for details on the next TBR. I'm hosting "Mentor, Tormentor". :)
Details HERE. Hope to hear from you!

Hi, ness. I heart the Philippines because:
Personal Reason # 11: Heart-warming commnents from fellow docs. (This is totally devoid of sarcasm.)
Personal Reason # 12: The Philippines -- the local healthcare, in particular -- is a treasure trove of metaphors. We doctors are able to think up shining metaphors that creative writers (e.g., BA Creative Writing grads) will never think up. mel here. (PS. Gi-atay, bisdak ka? Aha dapit?)
